柴进因放走了李逵，柴进在饱受折磨后随同全家老小被打入大牢，等候发落。与此同时，李逵火速赶回梁山求救，刚进入梁山不想却和朱仝冤家路窄，朱仝仍因李逵误杀小衙内之事耿耿于怀，三言两语之后二人大打出手，终在宋江等人的调解下冰释前嫌。宋江得知柴进为救李逵身陷囹圄，为救柴进便率大兵逼近高廉城，高廉摆出失传已久的八卦阵，打得梁山措手不及，宋江出师不利，在吴用的推荐下，宋江派戴宗前去请公孙胜出师破阵，李逵自告奋勇随戴宗前行。一路上李逵因贪杯被戴宗捉弄得好不狼狈。二人来到公孙家中，不想却吃了闭门羹，商量之后终于二人用计叩开了公孙胜的大门。得知二人的来意之后公孙胜一口回绝，戴宗苦苦哀求，公孙胜终被戴宗感动，答应出师破阵。宋江在公孙胜的帮助下大破敌军，高廉告书求援，宋江等人将计就计，扮作援军骗开了城门，乘胜追击，高廉大兵溃不成军。
