스칼렛 핌퍼넬
주인공 스칼렛 핌퍼넬은 프랑스 혁명 당시 단두대로 끌려가는 귀족들을 구출해 영국으로 넘기는 정체불명의 인물이다. 로베스피에르는 스칼렛 핌퍼넬을 잡기 위해 그의 심복 쇼블랑을 영국에 파견한다. 쇼블랑은 지금은 멍청한 영국 귀족 퍼시 블레이크니의 부인이 된 배우 마르그리트를 협박해서 스칼렛 핌퍼넬의 정체를 알아내려 한다.
