Nel Medioevo, in anni duri segnati da guerre e malattie. Marta, una giovane d'animo nobile, è dotata di un dono unico al mondo: è in grado di guarire gli ammalati, di qualunque genere. Il misterioso e miracoloso potere genera in chi le sta attorno gratitudine, ma anche invidia e perfino odio. Quando si trova a curare la moglie del temibile castellano del suo paese, la ragazza inspiegabilmente fallisce ed è ben presto costretta a fuggire, perché ormai sono in molti a volerla eliminare. L'unico a prendere seriamente le sue difese è Christian, un aitante cavaliere che si è innamorato di lei. Il coraggioso giovane, però, dovrà seguire il suo esercito di appartenenza in battaglia e Marta resterà sola e indifesa. Riuscirà a cavarsela?
